What is Kinesiology

Energetic Kinesiology is a non-invasive, holistic approach to health and well-being.
Your body’s innate intelligence is to be well and healthy.

Definition of kinesiology (kin – esi – ology) –  (noun) :  the study of the principles of mechanics and anatomy in relation to human movement

Kinesiology is the scientific study of human or non-human body movement. Kinesiology addresses physiological, biomechanical, and psychological mechanisms of movement.

Kinesiology creates and maintains a balance between your body, mind and soul – this in turn increases your vitality, health and wellbeing.

‘Kinesiology encompasses holistic health disciplines which use the gentle art of muscle monitoring to access information about a person’s well-being. Originating in the 1970s, it combines Western techniques and Eastern wisdom to promote physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. Kinesiology identifies the elements which inhibit the body’s natural internal energies and accessing the life enhancing potential within the individual.’ (This definition was approved by the Australian Kinesiology Association in 1999).

This method of muscle monitoring allows the kinesiologist to ascertain the status of almost any neuro-physiological event in the body, be it physical, chemical, emotional or a memory.
By using this biofeedback system called muscle monitoring, we discover areas of stress/imbalance in the body, mind and energy systems and identify ways to bring you back to a healthy balance. Some of the techniques used in a kinesiology balance to harmonize your energetic systems are; acupressure stimulation, muscle stimulation, sound therapy, emotional stress release and flower essences.
We do not treat or diagnose, but rather combine the muscle monitoring with various modalities to reduce stress and pain thus opening the door for your body to reach optimum health and well-being.
Kinesiology can be thought of as a hands-on approach to wellness. Many believe it is the most effective stand-alone technology of the future in alternative medicine.
The term Energetic and Functional Kinesiology encompasses many systems and modalities. The over-riding commonality of these various approaches is the use of muscle monitoring and the theories of the energies of our 'being'. Functional Kinesiology can bring you to balance in body, heart, mind and spirit, for optimum health and happiness.

As a Functional Kinesiologist, a specific type of kinesiology is used - Energetic Kinesiology.

‘Energetic’ kinesiology, as opposed to ‘Applied’ kinesiology (used by many Chiropractors). Energetic kinesiology has developed from the work of Chiropractor Dr George Goodheart. Dr Goodheart developed Applied Kinesiology in the 1960’s that stemmed from research in the 1940’s by academics and physical therapists Florence and husband Henry Kendall who both worked with polio sufferers and pioneered standards in physical therapy.
Dr George Goodheart and his colleagues correlated the relationship between internal organs, acupuncture meridians and skeletal muscles and soon realised that via the central nervous system and ‘muscle monitoring’ the practitioner is able to monitor internal function.
Research, development and pioneering techniques have emerged since the late 1970’s/early 1980’s with innovators such as Dr Charles Krebs (LEAP), Richard Utt (Applied Physiology), Dr John Thie (Touch for Health), Dr Paul Dennison (Brain Gym) among others, all based on the foundation work from Dr George Goodheart, hence the development of Energetic Kinesiology.
